About convents: The term convent, conventus in Latin meaning "House,". Originally comes from the Rome meeting where citizens gathered for administrative purposes or for justice (Conventum Juridicum).

The word convent can be specifically used for religious active work orders, while the monastery applies, in general, the contemplative orders, aimed at the closure - but this distinction is unclear and  not unanimously welcomed.
